At the heart of any microwave oven is the Megetron tube. This is the core technology that has not changed since the microwave was invented. It is unlikely that you will see a Magnetron tube or have to replace one because if that part of your microwave oven goes out, its time to get a new microwave. But the skill and design that goes into every microwave oven also lies in the construction of the housing, the placement of absorbers in the walls of the oven and the seals in the doors to make sure the microwave is consistently safe to use.
It really is amazing when you think about it that daily we press a button and heat our food and beverages with beams that could kill us if they got loose from that microwave oven. But these simple and very common ovens are so well made and built with so much emphasis on safety that everything about the design of that small box prevents an accident from ever happening. That design that goes into every component of a microwave oven is one of the reasons that we all have come to trust these appliances so much so that we would not consider our homes complete unless there is a microwave in every kitchen.
